*TIMID LIBERALS SELL OUT OVER WITNESSES & OTHER EVIDENCE

Last week, 25 mostly liberal Republican Senators crossed over to vote with the Democrats killing the motion for live witnesses. The need now for additional witnesses and evidence has become paramount. The recent revelation that Sidney Blumenthal perjured himself in his deposition has prompted Rep. Henry Hyde (R-IL) to demand depositions of Christopher Hitchens and several other journalists who contradict Blumenthal’s statements. “During their secret deliberations, the Senators must not ignore the seriousness of this new evidence which buttesses the obstruction of justice charge,” says CIC’s Scott Lauf.

*FINAL VOTE APPROACHES….MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD!

Despite being hampered by the restrictive rules of the trial, the House managers effectively presented their closing arguments for conviction and removal. There is no doubt that President Clinton committed the criminal felonies of perjury and obstruction of justice. It is now up to the timid Senators who are now deliberating in “closed” session to decide whether or not the President is above the law. Sen. Robert Byrd (D-WV), who has changed his tune before, has now said he believes the President committed “high crimes and misdemeanors,” but also says he has to take into account Bill Clinton’s so-called popularity. “Byrd & Co. must be told that neither ‘job approval ratings’ nor mob sentiment can overrule the law of the land,” says CIC’s Jack Clayton.

--PLEASE CALL, FAX & E-Mail your Senators (#202-224-3121) as well as those selected at http://www.impeachclinton.org/resources.php?article=contact and DEMAND CONVICTION & REMOVAL! Denounce ALL efforts for “censure” and other unconstitutional deals which are just ways to cover their hides.

--These next 72 hours are your last chance to persuade your lawmakers to do the right thing before the expected final vote on late Thursday or Friday. Make it count!

*TROUSER BRIGADE MAKES THE NEWS

The group calling itself the “Clinton-Without-Trousers Brigade” has had a photo of their fine work, as well as their manifesto, published in today’s Washington Times newspaper (2/9/99 p.A10). The group has urged all Americans to not forget the “Jane Does” who have suffered because of Clinton, and it has pledged to strike again between now and President’s Day.... “stay viewed to a tree near you.”

*WEAR “YELLOW” NEXT WEEK ??

If we lose the upcoming vote on removal, the battle is far from over. After the vote, CIC urges all supporters to wear “yellow” shirts, ties, hats & other articles of clothing and/or wrap yellow crepe paper around trees and poles in your community. “Yellow symbolizes cowardice, and we want to send the message that the Senators who voted to protect a criminal in the White House are nothing but cowards,” says CIC’s Jack Clayton.

*NEW POLLS SHOW AMERICANS FED UP WITH CLINTON

If the media spinsters have discouraged you over the months about Clinton’s supposed “popularity,” you can happily take note of recent polls measuring Clinton’s character and conduct. FOX News has found that over 70% believe Clinton is guilty of perjury; 56% believe he will lie again; and a little over 50% believe he obstructed justice. (Other equally revealing polls are posted on our web site http://www.impeachclinton.org ). “Clearly, if some Senators are so obsessed about the polls, they should definitely listen to these,” CIC’s Michael Neal.

*SENATE CLERK TRAGICALLY KILLED

The Senate Clerk Scott Bates, whose familiar voice over the Senate impeachment trial could be heard in the quorums and roll call votes, was tragically struck down by a car in Arlington, VA late last Friday. His wife was also hit and is in critical condition. The mood in the Senate was somber during Saturday’s proceedings. Bates had worked in the Senate for 30 years and was known personally by all the Senators. CIC’s Stephen Miroy is asking supporters to send letters of condolence addressed to: The Bates Family, 1825 N. Arlington St., Arlington, VA 22205.
